Ozone

Ozone is an extremely strong disinfectant that can decompose oxidizable substances in a short time. Properly applied, ozone is the safest disinfectant.

History of ozone

Ozone is an unstable molecule of three oxygen atoms discovered by Christian Friedrich Schönbein in 1840. Its name comes from the Greek word “ozein” = “smelling bad”. Ozone is a poisonous gas with a pungent odor. At standard temperature and pressure, (light weight) pale blue. Below -112 ° C dark blue liquid, below -193 ° C dark blue crystal. Unstable: Decomposes into an ordinary oxygen molecule (O2) and a single-atom, highly reagent called nascent, single-atom oxygen.

Where can I find it?

Ozone is found in soil compounds, water, and the ozone shield. In the vicinity of a lightning strike, a large amount of so-called corona discharge. Electric arcs generated during Tesla coil experiments can also produce large amounts of ozone. Furthermore, any UV (UV-c) radiation with a wavelength close to 185 nm also generates ozone. Most of the tanning beds are e.g. this is why it is made with a special glass cover that filters out this UV light wavelength, but ordinary copiers also produce ozone, or even most halogen bulbs, only in very small quantities.

Use of ozone

As early as the 19th century, people began to use ozone for disinfection, water treatment, healing, cleaning, and keeping food fresh. And over the course of a hundred years, people's attitudes and attitudes toward ozone have changed significantly, and its use is widespread. In 1902, the first factory was established in Germany to specialize in the ozone disinfection and purification of water. Since then, ozone technology has been used in the process of purifying and disinfecting water in many waterworks. From 1904, the use of ozone in keeping foods containing milk, meat, cheese, and protein fresh also became widespread.

Ozone disinfection

Ozone is one of the strongest oxidizing and disinfecting agents. If it comes into contact with any microorganism (bacteria, viruses, mold, fungi), odor-causing elements, dissolved oxidizable minerals, compounds, insects or mycotoxins produced by fungi, it simply destroys them.
